Hibernation Issues with Ubuntu Dual Boot

Hello All!

I have been having problems hibernating my windows 7 partition recently. It happened approximately right after I set up the dual boot.

I have found other topics where it says to make sure that the windows 7 partition is marked as the active partition. I have since done so and it has not changed anything. I did it with Partition Magic on Windows. I did find it suspicious though that my Dell Recovery partition is labeled as boot while the Windows one is marked as Active and System.

However when I looked at it using disk utility in Ubuntu the windows 7 partition is marked as Bootable while the recovery partition is not.

Hibernation works on Ubuntu with a couple error messages while shutting down and some weird screen issues while booting up. But it ends up working decently.

I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me with this. Thanks!

Partition Magic is not compatible with Win7.

Having GRUB on the same HD with Win7 can and often will corrupt it. The only way to avoid this is to install OS's on separate HD's booted via BIOS so that GRUB isn't needed.

Please post back a screenshot of your full Win7 Disk Management drive map and listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

Hello. Sorry for the confusion, I meant I was using Partition Wizard not Partition Magic. I've had grub and windows 7 on the same drive on my last computer and it did not cause any issues, so Im curious as to why its doing it here

Your System MBR is written to the Recovery drive which is not correct. It likely is messing up your Hibernation if GRUB is not.

Since Win7 is marked Active, you should be able to recover the System MBR into the Win7 partition by simply booting the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots: Startup Repair

also why do you have to do it with 3 separate reboots?

Because it sometimes takes 3 separate repairs to write the MBR to Active partition.

I do not know if it will mess with GRUB. But I do know GRUB messes with Win7.

Your best install with Ubuntu/Linux is to a separate HD booted via BIOS so the GRUB is not necessary.
