Are you still not able to open the Downloads folder?

Elti,

Ok. If you like, go ahead and download and merge the folder and Directory options in the same tutorial below. Afterwards, see if you are able to open the folder without the error.

Apologies for making my first post several years after the last update to this thread. I found it through a Google search - I have the exact same problem, but the solution that worked for the OP did not work for me, despite getting the "success" message after running the Libraries restoration program.

As with the OP, the downloads shortcut icon is a blank. A look at "properties" shortcut shows that the target and path information is missing. Of course, one cannot simple type the info into those fields.

However, using the "previous versions" option shows that all my downloads are still there and accessible.

Any alternative suggestions for bringing the icon back to life?

With thanks,
wtm

ps - and I regret to note that I have already violated a rule of forum decorum by appending my issue to someone else's thread. Again, my apologies!

Hello wtm, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if restoring the default location of your Downloads folder using step 5 in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below may be able to help.

Well, I'll be doggoned - worked!

The "downloads" shortcut was still 'blank' after I followed the steps and restarted, but I right-clicked to get to Properties>General>previous versions, selected the most recent version, and hit "restore."
Instantly fixed.

Muchas gracias, Brink - I had gone through many, many other recipes for a cure, but none availed. This worked like magic, and my elderly Win 7 is back without recourse to duct tape.

FIRST check recycle bin!!!

I had this problem and checked the recycle bin. I had somehow deleted my Downloads folder. Clicked restore, and it's back, including its contents.
