I want to install Windows 7, but we don't even know for sure when the RTM is going to be released/leaked.

If you have the time, go ahead and install it. Backup your data first. Or find one of the more recent leaked builds to more stability and performance. I would recommend not waiting for RTM to leak. Besides with the leaked builds you get to use near-RTM OS until next year FREE!

If you have waited this long what is a couple of more weeks. but if you do decide to take the plunge build 7100 is good until march 2010, and rtm builds you have roughly 4 months. You can upgrade from 7100 to RTM as well.

Ok, thanks, I think I'm going to wait for a few more opinions.

I have a key for 7100, when will it be useless? I haven't used it, upgraded to 7264 before the initial month was up.

It's not the key that expires, just the build. However, the RC key will not be accepted by the final RTM build. However, you will be able to use the final code for 30 days, and then re-arm it three more times for a total of 120 days. Just buy the dang key from Microsoft as an upgrade before time runs out IMHO.

Install what you have 7100 is a great build,if you have no windows 7 time in the saddle then get some. IMHO its worth every min. or hour it takes to install and learn to navigate. If you have been using it and know all you need to know about installing and making sure drivers work then waiting for the RTM is maybe an option. Its here its now just do it. With that said make sure you have an alternate pc or dual boot just so you do not end up with no online presence, which would be well bad right. Hope that helps you decide, enjoy! lm

Honestly just wait. While its all great and fancy you might run into a few show stoppers and have it leave a bad taste in your mouth.

You waited out this long, just start getting drivers and crap for your motherboard and when you get RTM install and enjoy a finished product.

I would go for it , but beware 7100 will expire on march 2010, if you currently have vista or xp running, then I would suggest a dual boot. but make sure to back up your data first
