What happened to custom desktop Taskbars? Did they ditch the custom taskbar feature in Windows 7? I really miss my second, top-of-screen taskbar with all my favorite short cuts. Will we see this come back in the final version? Anyone know?

Are you refering to the Quick Launch menu? It's still there, but sort of hidden . | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom workstation /// Lenovo X61t tablet notebook OS Windows 7 RTM x64 CPU Core i7 980X @ 4.04GHz OC /// Core Duo L7500 @ 1.6GHz Motherboard Asus P6T6 WS Revolution /// Memory 12GB G. No.. I am talking about the custom taskbar you can create in XP. Create an empty folder onthe desktop, fill it with short cuts then drag it to an edge of the screen. makes a quick launch type of bar that you can customize by right clicking. I will miss that for sure as I prefer a clean desktop with minimum icons. | My System Specs

They go against the taskbar philosophy, they won't be coming back. | My System Specs

What I would really like to see is the same feature but be able to add the folder to the task bar at the bottom as a single icon then when I hover my mouse or click on it it opens like the start menu containing just the items I select. anyone important listening? | My System Specs

You have always been able to do that (and still can)... sort of.
If you create a new toolbar (right click on toolbar, choose Toolbars->New Toolbar, fill it with icons, then drag it all the way to the right until none of them are visible any longer.. there will be a "more" kind of icon that you can click on and a menu will pop up with all the icons on it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU Core i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Memory 12 GB (6x2GB Corsair) Graphics Card nVidia 250GTS Sound Card Built-in Monitor(s) Displays 2x Samsung SyncMaster 2343 (23" Widescreen) Keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech Laser |

This kind of shows what i'm talking about.. the first image shows how when the toolbar is all the way to the right, it creates a menu. http://www.xp-tips.com/desktop-toolbar.html | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU Core i7 920 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Memory 12 GB (6x2GB Corsair) Graphics Card nVidia 250GTS Sound Card Built-in Monitor(s) Displays 2x Samsung SyncMaster 2343 (23" Widescreen) Keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard Mouse Logitech Laser |

I feel your pain - after much exploring various freeware I ended up shelling out for the True Launch Bar, which is awesome and has great plug-ins. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom workstation /// Lenovo X61t tablet notebook OS Windows 7 RTM x64 CPU Core i7 980X @ 4.04GHz OC /// Core Duo L7500 @ 1.6GHz Motherboard Asus P6T6 WS Revolution /// Memory 12GB G. You can add folders to the taskbar but sadly its only as the name of the folder and not an icon.
1. right click on the taskbar and go to toolbars, new toolbar
2. a dialog box will appear asking you to select a folder
3. select the folder you wish to add to the taskbar and it will be added. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit CPU Intel E8400 3GHz Motherboard Intel DX48BT2 Memory Kingston PC3-10700H 4Gb Graphics Card XFX Radeon HD 5850 BlackEd.
