    Windows auto switching

Why is it that if I am typing in a window, then open another application and then go back to typing in that window and then it will auto switch to the application that I set to open.

I don't want it doing this and wonder if it can be stopped. For example I am typing in this form and then open a java app. that requires a password, it will switch to that java app. while I am typing in this window. I want it to where I will manual go to that application and then log in when I am ready.

    Any thoughts!!!

Is this happening AFTER the new program has been up and running for a time? Or right at the start of that other program opening?

If it is at the startup of that other program there is nothing you can do about it. "YOU" actually asked to have the focus shifted to that other program by opening it.
The only thing you can do is wait for that other program to open fully then switch back to your original program.
That is if you haven't ASKED that other program to do something in the background and when it is done doing that it is notifying you that it has finished.

You may have a point. I will have to keep an eye on this. So far this has been the only issue I have seen with Win7. Not to bad in my books. I just thought I would have seen this before with Windows. But either way I can live with it because 7 has been GREAT.

Okay, I still have a problem with the way windows are being opened. Yes I see your point but I have JAVA apps that I open switch into a RDC session and when the app opens it will pop up in front of my RDC. This should not be the case. I know I can't be the only one that has seen this problem. Yes there is a delay in opening JAVA applications, but if you have moved on they should open in the background, not keep popping up in the front. I don't have any other complaints with Win7, but I never saw this problem or it wasn't as bad on older OS.

Or is this the vendor that wrote it to function this way?

In fact today I was downloading a .zip file in IE9 and writing and email in Outlook. While typing the email it auto switched to IE. This should not happen in my opinion and I am wondering if there is a way to modify this problem.

    Just another example.

I know this post is old, but the problem has still happening and I know there has to be a way to edit this function. So I have a repeatable process that shows this craziness. If I start SQL Developer and set it to monitor current seesion say every 30 seconds and minimize the screen. You would simply think that everything would run in the background. But as I type an email, every 30 seconds the window flickers and it is like it switches to the SQL window. I have to click back on the email to continue writing.

My point is that things like java apps and others will pop in front even though you are working on something else. It would seem that if you click on something to open it but go to another program like your email, the other should open in the background. If someone does some basic testing they will find this to be true.

    Why?
Is there a way to tell the system that the active window is priority?
