Context Menu Problem

OK. I have an issue here which I have never seen before, on my own main machine which is running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, and I am unable to solve it as yet. I don't know exactly when it occurred, but it was some time today.

The issue is, if I right click on a file in Explorer, then I get the same context menu I would get if I clicked on empty space. If I select the file first, by clicking on it, so that it is highlighted, and then right click, I get the correct context menu.

I have tried a whole lot of tests and settings, but I can't change this behaviour!

Anybody any ideas?

Regards....Mike Connor

That sounds like normal behavior for windows explorer. select with left button but select the file icon or left part of the file listing and then right click to do what you want to it.

Maybe I don't understand your question.

Up to now, ( or up to before this happened ), when I right clicked on a file in the explorer window, I got this context menu;

Now when I right click on a file, I get this context menu;

That is the same context menu one gets when clicking on empty space.

I can now only reach the correct context menu if I first highlight the file by clicking once on it, and then right clicking on the highlighted file.

Before this occurred, it was not necessary to highlight a file in order to get the correct context menu. I would like to restore the correct behaviour. I have been trying for hours, and looking for solutions, but I have not yet found anything to solve it.

Every time you right click is should select the correct item for the right click menu,

Do you have custom mouse that use's its own buttom assignments, if so so go to the software and assign the right click as something else and then Apply and then change it back. see if this works.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't work.

I vaguely recall something similar a while back that was a result of the NIS context menu entry which in fact broke the Windows context menu and created a couple of weird issues. Have you installed or updated anything which may have added/changed it's context menu entry? So you might try disabling anything that may be a potential culprit?
