system won't boot up

Hi, hopefully someone here will have suggestions for me....I am running 7 HP on a mostly home made system (it started life out as a gateway) and I have aprox 500 gigs divided into 2 parts, with another external tb that I keep all my art stuff on (I am a computer artist) so I won't lose everything...

Anyway to make a long story short, at the moment I can't get it to boot up, Yesterday it was at least booting up but all it gave me was a pure white screen and now it won't even do that... I have tried to do a restore, but all my points were gone...so I tried from reading here that I could go into my reg files and fix that by removing a couple of folders...well that worked great and displayed my restore points, but i tried 6 or 7 and it wasn't able to complete the restore...

I then tried the restore in the "repair your computer" section and several times it told me again there were none....Also the "start up repair" told me that there was nothing wrong with my computer...
So, here are the "tools " I have to work with, to get my system back and running......

I can pull a boot up from a Vista dvd that came from MS directly, but I also have 2 install discs of win7 I made, and one just boot and repair, and when I try to reinstall windows, it tells me that there is an issue with a connected drive....But, if I use the vista one it does boot, but never starts installing the files...

When I try to boot (and sometimes i was successfull with one of the win 7 discs too) it does show windows installing, but then it keeps starting over and over again.

I AM able to access my computer via programs like regedit and my c-prompt, but most of the programs won't start. Some exe's will start though like mozilla so I can also access the internet.
I can also access my program files, and don't see anything glaringly out of place...

I have always run a couple of different security issues, but can't get any of those to start...even my Hijack this won't open.

Reading through your forums the past day and today, I can't seem to find any other issues like mine currently, and sure would appreciate any advice you can give me,

Oh, I have tried in both regular and safe modes...

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Are you able to use the machine at the moment? ( You say you can use regedit etc). That is a little unclear from your post.

If you are, you should first check that malware is not affecting your system.

Download this;

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1 - FileHippo.com

and run a FULL scan, after updating the database. If it finds anything post the log here.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Yeah, I have limited use of it...I do have malware bites installed, but when I try to open it now (even on a run as admin) it tells me that I am missing MSVBVM60.DLL...i don't know if I'll be able to download and run the program, but will try...

Yeah, right now the only way I can boot up anything is to do the c prompt in safe mode from there I have been trying to use what I can. For example the exe for mozilla works, and crap cleaner will execute. But most others wont
part of the problem is that all of my "hidden" folders went back to being hidden, and I can't seem to access anything to change that...

OK, it isn't offering me an option of where it will save it, and i get a message saying there isn't enough room on my X drive and to remove stuff if i want to add the malware file. I know it's not that big of a file.

OK. Take your time and please wait for a response before you do anything.

That is a Microsoft Visual Basic file, but can also be a virus carrier.

If you are unable to start Malwarebytes just say so.

OK. If you can't download it, we will have to try another approach.

and click on "START SCAN (32-Bit)

yes, you are correct, I can't get malwarebites to run...same thing happened when I tried to get my hijack this to run..and as I mentioned, the link you gave me doesn't give me an option of where to save it...so it's trying to save it on my x(??) drive, and it is telling me there is no room on that drive to download the temp file needed so I can download the file

OK. When you right click on the drive you get a window like this;

click on "Disk Cleanup" in the box to the right of the pie chart.

It should start calculating how much space it can save, and then give you a window like this;

check all the boxes and then click on "OK"

hmmmm, that didn't work either...i did manage to save it to my c drive (even though it says "start scan" it really needs to save it in a temp file) and what I end up with is another .exe file, and I can't get the scan to run

Sorry, I think we are somehow out of sync here. Try the drive cleanup I suggested in my previous post.
