That is normal.
Windows 7 is anticipating what applications you may need.
All that RAM will be available if the system calls for it.
Why do you want to lower it?

Not only it is normal, it is one of the prime reasons to use Windows 7 over XP.

The reason is the other RAM is cached and You never have the full 4GB. The PC uses it just to run. That is why a sys wont even post without RAM.

I've never come across it, but I believe some motherboards have a BIOS option to enable memory remapping that will allow all 4 GB to be usable. Some of it could also be set aside for onboard graphics as well.

Unless your BIOS/Motherboard supports Memory Remapping, you are not going to get the full 4GBs. Otherwise the hardware will continue to take up a portion of the 4GB address space.

Necessary amount of RAM
I know that the general concensus, at least to a degree, is the more RAM, the better. But realisitically, what would the absolute least amount necessary be? I ask because I'm considering an all-in-one Dell which comes with 4 GB of RAM & no option to add more during the ordering process. Is 4 GB...
