    High amount of RAM Chached


    Hey guys,

    When checking my RAM Usage I notice a High Amount of RAM Chached ... Is this Normal if not how can I lower this?

    That is normal.
    Windows 7 is anticipating what applications you may need.
    All that RAM will be available if the system calls for it.
    Why do you want to lower it?

    I was just wondering if that is Too high or not if not then I will leave it ,

    Just Opened about 100 Calculators and it has gone down Thanks

    Not only it is normal, it is one of the prime reasons to use Windows 7 over XP.

    Ohh and Another Question why is it that I have 4GB Ram yet only 2.92GB Is usable?

    The reason is the other RAM is cached and You never have the full 4GB. The PC uses it just to run. That is why a sys wont even post without RAM.

    I've never come across it, but I believe some motherboards have a BIOS option to enable memory remapping that will allow all 4 GB to be usable. Some of it could also be set aside for onboard graphics as well.

    Unless your BIOS/Motherboard supports Memory Remapping, you are not going to get the full 4GBs. Otherwise the hardware will continue to take up a portion of the 4GB address space.
