    Windows 7 Desktop Refreshing

I've never had this issue up until today. I manually shutdown my laptop at the log-in screen and from there all my issues began. When I started up my system the "Windows Reboot Manager" popped up which had never popped up before so I just chose Windows 7 and it began up just fine. Well once I got to the log-in page I typed in my password. It was a no go and after using the keypad it worked just fine. Well when I opened up Microsoft Word 2007 to see what the issue was I discovered that by pressing specific number keys it would include a letter.

Anyways, after running multiple scans, updating my computer, and scanning for viruses nothing availed. So, I went into my device manager uninstalled all keyboard devices and that fixed the issues. However, a new issue has begun to occur which is that at times my desktop icons flicker continuously and when I open my Mozilla Firefox the pages constantly refresh. In addition, when I go into other programs like Word it opens a dialog box so I can't type, in Powerpoint in causes whatever I'm working on to begin the slideshow, and even refreshes the entire list when I open up my add/remove program.

It's working fine now, but I know eventually it will go back to the flickering causing my computer to rendered practically useless. I've run all the tests I can think of and I've run out of ideas. I'm fairly certain it isn't a virus since my scans show nothing. Also, I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials since my McAfee expired; I already deleted every file related to McAfee.

If anyone could help me, that would be great.

Running: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    HP Pavilion dv7-3186cl Entertainment Notebook

Hi CheyenneH and welcome to SF! :)
If you have another keyboard handy, replace it by yours and see if the problem persists.
If it does, download Malwarebytes, update it and run a full scan. Post its results here.

Unfortunately, I do not own another keyboard. Yet, somehow, the problem has fully resolved itself and I haven't had any issues since last night. So, I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing and that it will come back, but so far no desktop refreshing has occurred at all today.

Glad to hear that you had no more issues!
Anyway, let's see if this status is maintained. I ask you keep us informed.
