Windows OS for Acer Aspire One? Hi i am looking for some advice,
A family member has an Acer Aspire One netbook, and they would like a Windows Operating system installed. I have already installed my copy of windows XP Home on my own identical netbook, which runs fairly well, but not great. So basically i would like to knw if i got Vista or 7, would either of those run better than XP?
The specs of the AA1 are:
16Gb SSD
1.6GHz Intel Atom N270
1Gb RAM DDR2
Thanks, Rob | My System Specs |

Thanks, Rob Windows 7(and Vista) needs more than just 16GB and it won't run properly with 1GB of RAM, you should upgrade your storage and add an additional 1GB of RAM | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 Pro / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

Hello Rob,
I would go with a Windows 7 edition instead of Vista. While the Windows 7 minimum system requirements are below, it would be best to have at least 2GB of RAM for better performance. - 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
- 1 GB RAM for 32-bit Windows 7 OR 2 GB RAM for 64-bit Windows 7
- 16 GB available hard disk space for 32-bit Windows 7 OR 20 GB for 64-bit Windows 7
- Graphics card or chip that supports DirectX 9 with 128 MB memory (to have Aero theme enabled)
- DVD-R/W drive, or bootable USB port with Windows 7 USB flash drive
- Internet or phone access to activate Windows 7.
Hope this helps,

1GB is the bare minimum for Windows 7. It won't run exceptionally well. 2GB is the sweet spot for actually noticing a speed difference. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Ultimate RTM (Technet) CPU 3.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo E8400 Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. If that model of netbook has Windows 7 drivers available for it at Acer, then you could install say the 32-bit Windows 7 Starter or 32-bit Windows 7 Home Basic if you like. It's just that it will not run as well with 1GB as it would with 2GB or more. That's all. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector

I think most of the Acer Aspire One (new gen from last year) have drivers for "Windows 7 Starter & Basics" edition, at least...and the ability of 2GB Ram...
Knowing the price for 1Gb Ram (DDR2 it should be) so cheap actually, you can give a try for a Windows 7 edition even a Home Premium x32 bits are listed for Netbook Aspire One: Download | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number [May-Dec-2012] - New Mid-tower - (is done!) You'll definitely need more storage space. A fresh install is around 10GB. | My System Specs | | OS Debian Squeeze Stable 64-bit Windows OS for Acer Aspire One? problems? All times are GMT -5. The time now is 07:44 AM. | |
