    Windows Boot Software Advice

    Hey guys,

I had an issue where Windows 7 would not boot anymore, getting error, BOOTMGR missing, Press Alt-Ctrl-Del to restart. I have tried to repair with windows disk but still getting error. I have decided that I want to just do a reinstall but I want to get on and export my favorites and grab a couple other things. I used to have a CD that I could use to boot up with (Think it was called Barts Boot Disk, Been too long) to get into Windows XP and do a couple things. My question is, is what is the best boot disk that will allow me to copy files from the HD to my external drive before I refresh? Thanks for the help.

    Hello :)

u can try to fix the missing bootmgr with these steps:

    1. Put the Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

    2. Press a key when you are prompted. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

    3. Click Repair your computer.

    4. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

    5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

    6. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

I have not tried the CMD Prompt yet to fix, I have a major headache yesterday from this and gave up very quickly and went to bed. I will try that. For some reason it does not work, what are some good boot programs for windows 7 that I can use?

The only thing you can do is:

    1.Re install Windows 7.
2.Use the Windows 7 DVD to repair your Computer.
3.Install a other OS like XP

All boot repair commands are now automated in Win7 Startup Repair, which may find other repairs that are needed: Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Make sure the Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition are marked Active first: Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Also make sure the Win7 HD is set first to boot in BIOS setup.
