retrieving file from XP on windows 7

hi, i recently installed windows 7 on new harddisk. on my old hard disk i had windows 7 with my files. after installing windows 7 on my new hard disk i wanted to retrieve some files from the old XP harddisk. but now when i boot from the xp harddisk i get no response form my mouse or keyboard! (maybe be due to the fact that i am using a all new hardware) so is there a may that i could run xp through windows 7 as a console or something ? or what is a better solution ?

Just connect the XP drive to the system and boot from the Windows 7 disk. You'll be able to access the files you need.
