Disappearing Dock

For some reason the "dock," or "ribbon" along the top of the screen, a feature of Windows 7 I have come to like, has simply disappeared. I tried turning the machine off and waiting to restart. No luck. Any suggestions?? Thanks.:confused:

Ribbon interface is supported only in certain programs in Windows 7 (Wordpad, Paint etc.) and in stand along programs like Microsoft Office.

Please specify what application are we talking about here? And please post a screenshot of this issue.
