Laptop fan loud, warmer temps than usual.

Recently, I heard my fan going really loud while playing some games. So I used some compressed air to clean it out. Surprisingly there wasn't as much dust coming out as I expected. My computer usually runs under 50 C when just browsing the web, but now its at 58. Playing a game, it usually runs at 63ish but now it runs up to 74 C. I even have a laptop fan under my computer. I have no idea whats going on, usually after I use my compressed air, it goes back to normal, but what now?

Hello, welcome to Seven Forums. If you could fill out your system specs we would be able to more accurately come up with a solution. As it stands I have no idea what processor you have to determine normal temps or how old the system is.

Okay, now we have something to go on. :) A search of your model number landed me on this thread of the HP support forum. They suggest you change the power settings to aid in overheating. Seems to be a design issue with your particular model. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks nitro, I did what they said in that thread, but my temperature only decreased about 3 degrees, still not to the normal temps I usually get. Is there anything else I can do? My laptop is 1 and a half years old. Just very recently did the fan become loud and temp rise.

Have you checked the cooling pad fans to make sure they haven't slowed down due to dust bunnies?

rayco, it sounds lie a fan is getting worn out or clogged. when fans start to get loud that is usually the reason. if your comfortable with it crack open the laptop and clean it out that way. blowing air in the side ports just packs it in the laptop, this sometimes offer immediate relief but does not eliminate the problem. if you have smokers or animals areound your pc or if its near carpeting this will increase the dust accumulated considerably. ( a great reason to sell the cat) but seriously, if your comfortable with opening the case do that, vacuum it, to get the big stuff, then blow it out. and replace the fan if your in there, an once of prevention. here's some helpful links.

Another thing to think about is if the cooling pad fan is blowing against the internal or with it.

Yes I checked the cooling pad, no dust. I have the Notebook Cooler ZM-NC1500. As rfmjm3 said, my fan is probably worn out. But I'm hesitant to open up my laptop. The thing is, I only got this 1 and a half years ago and had a cooling pad since.

if you not comfortable with it, just take it to a shop or call a geek buddy, its a 5 minute job even with replacing the fan. if i had to guess on the cost of the fan and replacement in a shop i'de say a flat 45$ hr rate plus the fan. if you plan on keeping the laptop for a while a little extra $ on the fan choice can go a long way especially if you live in warmer climates. i like to over do it on my fans but idk what options you have with a laptop. best of luck.
