No keyboard short cuts working whatsoever

    Hi!

I just got a new laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad L420) with Windows 7, and I cannot get any of the short cuts to work, not even simple copy and paste. Does anyone know how to enable all shortcuts?

    Thanks, Angela

    Welcome to Seven Forums Angela.
Some laptop/netbook/notebook computers have a FN key to use in conjunction with other keys to be enabled. I'm not familiar with the L420 and could not find a manual for it.
    I would:
    1. Check the documentation you received with it.
    2. Call the seller/Lenovo for help.

It may be you have a bad one, I wouldn't think a new machine would have the keyboard functions "turned off".

    Hi,

You have 2 CTRL keys (left and right of the keyboard) do any of them work?
If you right click and select copy, then right click and select paste does that work?

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions, and especially for pointing out the FN key!
I just noticed that I had intuitively pressed the FN key instead of the CTRl key the whole time, as it's in the place of the Ctrl key on my old laptop. D'oh! Sorry for troubling you!

I'm glad you has sorted it :)

That will take some getting used too
I hate it when they replace the position of the CTRL key.

Thank you all. Yes, there are quite a few things that I need to get used to... keys and the different functionality of the touch pad (not sure if I can control that). Otherwise very happy so far!
