    File on desktop won't delete

There's a file on my desktop that's awkwardly titled "Tony Scalzo's First Solo Album by Tony Scalzo — " exactly like that, and it won't let me delete it. It comes up with this message:

I'm just wondering how I should delete it? Following another tutorial I was able to navigate to the desktop directory using cmd.exe, however I was not able to delete the file using the command "del filename" as the file name is long and wasn't accepting anything other than the word Tony.

    Any help appreciate!

    Thanks

ESET's giving me a warning for that, saying it's Adware. Is it safe?

Yeah, It's perfectly safe, but it now has the proverbial optional toolbar in the installer. Just make sure you don't accept it! (I think it's Yahoo!).

EDIT. It's "Fully optional Bing or Quickstores toolbar depending on location."

    HTH.

You may just have a high ascii character in the filename confusing the file manager. In that case there's a way to get rid of it that doesn't involve installing anything.

Try going to a command prompt, then navigating to your desktop folder. Once there do a dir /x to get the short filename. In this case try "dir /x t*.*" and you'll see the short filename of every file on your desktop starting with the letter T. It will look something like this:

    05/09/2011 11:44 AM 4,056 REMNCL~1.VBS remnclient.vbs
    03/30/2011 02:39 PM 1,238 REMOTE~2.LNK Remote Assistance.lnk
    02/22/2011 11:07 AM 1,613 REMOTE~1.LNK Remote Desktop Connection.ln
    02/22/2011 10:13 AM 1,592 RoyalTS.lnk
    02/18/2011 02:21 PM 880 WINDOW~1.LNK Windows XP Mode.vmc - Shortc
    ut.lnk
    19 File(s) 5,541,680 bytes
    6 Dir(s) 34,119,385,088 bytes free
    C:\Users\bryanp\Desktop>
Only in your case you should see something like this:

    02/18/2011 02:21 PM 0 Tony~1 Tony Scalzo's First Solo Album by Tony Scalzo —
If that was what you saw, you'd then type "del tony~1" and hit enter. If it works, that was your problem.

This issue can sometimes be caused by freespace errors:

I would have tried the cmd.exe fix above but the first solution worked perfectly. Thanks for the help guys! :)
