I just got off the Phone with MS about Licensing information.
I am a old time geek and have been a TechNet Subscriber for years, (1st in 2001), and a beta tester since 1995. I also teach CS (Computer Science) in after school class for Teachers, Parents and Students in the local school district.
So I called about some Data on the Licensing information.
I own 7 different Computers, 4 different Desktops,(old and new, both x86 and x64 platforms) and 3 different Laptops, (2 = x86 and 1 = x64).
I want to go to VLK (Volume License Key), for my systems to test and use all of the versions, for many reasons.
The statement from the License/Activation administration people is that if I get the Ultimate version, my volume license key will work on any of the setups versions.
That means that I can install the "Startup" version on my Wife's Netbook (Acer AspireONE x86), and any of the others on any of my other computers. Including x64 platforms.
This also includes the VLK (10 license set) that you get in the Technet Subscription as well.
