Windows Explorer (Libraries) opens on every startup

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment Laptop. Lately, when I start up my computer, Windows Explorer (Libraries) open automatically. I can close it out with no problem but find it annoying to see it on EVERY startup. I don't know if something happened during a HP or Windows update or if possibly picked up some spyware or malware somewhere. I ran scans with Avast anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes with nothing serious showing up...just cookies.

Everything seems to run properly with no problems but this showing up on startups/reboots, opens on safe mode also. I checked to see if anything in startup folder...Nothing. I checked msconfig settings...can't find anything unusual.

Please help if you can. I would be very grateful

    Hi CraigM02, Welcome to Sevenforums.

    Try this;
    Open Windows Explorer,
Press the Alt key and click Tools>Folder Options
Under the "View" tab, make sure that "Restore previous logon folders at startup" is unchecked.

hi Craig, and welcome to sevenforums again!

type msconfig in your start-menu searchbox - is there anything in the startup tab that may be causing this?

Thanks mickey, No, not that I could tell. Here is what is listed. I have already disabled some from running at startup that I do not consider necessary.

well nothing jumps out of that list as the obvious culprit.

however, i do wonder how many of those entries are actually useful...but that's a different subject. :)

Yes, that is something else I need to take care of but... first things first...

as a test, you could try disabling them all (temporarily) to see if that helps.

if it does, disable half of them, and you'll eventually home in on the culprit (if there is one).

I was going to try that but was afraid of disabling something that would keep my system from starting properly or screwing something else up that needs to run.

i'm pretty certain that none of those will prevent your system from starting - at worst certain software won't work quite right.

the entries are simple to re-enable in case of problems.

i suppose it all depends on how bothered you are by the explorer window opening, and how much time/effort you are willing to expend in finding a solution. :)
