    Win7 C:AppData and D:AppData cant access

    Hi all.

I just built a new system with win764. I took my old hard drive which also had win764 and hooked it up to transfer all my files over to the new system.

Problem is if I go to

    D:\Users\MYUSER\Application Data

its showing me the contents of

    C:\Users\MYUSER\Application Data

I dont know if it's a symbolic link or whatever. What can I do to "unlink" the old and the new?

    Any info appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi dotdot. Can you open Computer from the start menu and then open the D:\ form there? If so it shoulde be a straight forward copy/paste operation.

    Hi,

Yes I can access everything on that drive. Its just the users folders that I'm having issue with. They're like linked or something. The old drive and new drive both have windows 7 64. And on the new machine I set the same User and the same Computer name. I dont know if that is making windows think that the users folders are the same thing or not.

If I go to C:\Users\MYUSER\Application Data and create a folder in there, the same folder appears in D:\Users\MYUSER\Application Data. I have dual screens, and had both folders open to watch. So because of this "system linking" thing, I cant get to my original data on D:\Users\MYUSER\Application Data.

D:\Users\MYUSER\Application Data is a Symbolic Link. You need to open

    D:\Users\MYUSER\AppData instead.

That seems to work for appdata. Thanks Rich. Whole purpose of this was to go grab my FF profile and other app profile data.

Now how do I get to My Pictures? and My Documents?

    Much appreciated!

    Same way:

    \Users\MYUSER\Desktop
    \Users\MYUSER\My Documents
    \Users\MYUSER\My Music
    \Users\MYUSER\My Pictures
    \Users\MYUSER\SendTo

    etc.
