I need to repair my boot on my Ultimate SP1.
I have
Ultimate Installation Disk
Home Premium Installation Disk
Ultimate System Repair Disk
7 SP1 System Repair Disk (from a Toshiba Home Premium SP1)
And it still says "this version is not compatible to repair"
How can I solve this?
This happened after gparted.
I have the mbr partition image by clonezilla but I am hesitating to recover it since the partition sizes have changed.
I don't know what to do;
I can recover the mbr partition from the image but thepartition sizes have changed and there is 128 mb unallocated space between most partitions now.
I can manage flags from gparted but I don't know what to choose. First partition is already marked as boot, and other partitions have no flags.
EDIT: I got to start up repair (by choosing the other hard drive, but start up repair just coming up with "This system does not have a valid partition table". It says it is fixed, but it is not. Still trying and waiting ideas...
EDIT 2: At the insert proper media section... Any ideas...
EDIT 3: bootrec /scanos finds the windows in C and D (which is correct), but when I say bootrec /rebuildbcd, it says "element not found". (I can reach the contents of C and D with a Linux DVD, but I don't know what can I do there to fix the boot)
SOLVED: Boot with Linux Live CD (Booting into (un) existing Linux not necessary)
Open Terminal
type gptsync
It will give you the command to download and install gptsync
type gptsync /dev/sdbX
X is your disk number (if you have more than 1)
It will show you the option to fix the mbr
check it and select y
restart
