    Windows 7 on September 1

I read on softpedia.com that Windows 7 Gold will be released on September 1. I don't understand the article but it mentioned Windows 7 Gold editions. Does that mean that we the regular customers can get ahold of Windows 7 (any version/all versions)? Legally of course. I am getting ready to buy Win 7 Ultimate cause it has everything so I don't want to get my hopes up for Sept 1. What does this mean? I just wanna know when I can get the software. I don't want a beta or an pre-release, the final thing, case closed. Please assist.

Not sure. But i read somewhere that RTM will be available on Technet/MSDN 1 month after RTM is announced. So I can see that being close to true.

Retail is October 22nd. So if you plan to buy online or in a store, that's as early as you can get it.

The Sept 1 date is for when companies with volume licenses can get the Enterprise version.

I understand it will will be available internally, but MSDN and TechNet will not get it until a few weeks after the announcement.

Umm. I still don't get it. I just want to know if I can buy the September 1 release and use it permanently. Is it valid and is it the same version that is gonna be released on October 22 or is it temporary like a pre-release or can it be used "forever"?

Unless you work for a company that will let you install at home (you will need to activate with the KMS server of that company, or directly from Microsoft), you cannot buy Windows 7 at september 1st. This is for voume licenses, ie. businesses.
