Hidden Desktop Shortcuts' Hotkey not working

Hi everyone Every now and again my desktop icons stop working, just get a spinning wheel to the right of the icon. I can't launch Firefox or other programs. However, If i logoff and log straight back in again everything works fine. Can anyone help please? Regards Tony
