Messing with the Registry?

Running Win 7 professional on Dell laptop.
I have downloaded the remove shortcut arrow reg files & blank ico, anyway made a mistake, and have gone back to previous restore, and tried again, but alas do not get the merge facility when I right click the reg file, any ideas, I'm stumped,

Ther are tutorials all over the net to reset that behaviour - there's probably one on this site, too.

Check out the tutorial section - there will be something there to help.

That's the one I used, I didn't copy & paste the bank.ico into C:\ windows folder, but done everything else, so I got them little boxes in stead of the shortcut arrow, then panicked (my laptop was 3 hours old) and did a system resore, went back to the shortcut arrows on the desktop programs, but now have lost the facilty to try again.

Try SIW2's link. If it doesnt work, run a sfc scan a couple of times, then try again.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I've closed that computer down now for the day, have been on it for the last 10 hours, loading all my good stuff etc, but gardens need lawn mowering, grouting in bathroom not quite finished, we are going out tonight, and I'm driving, so have got to share my life with others for the rest of the day, but will meet up tomorrow.
Will checkout those links, cheers for your input.

Hello Peter,

When you do not see a Merge option when you right click on a REG file, then double check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, you should be able to merge the REG file.

However, using the free program in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below would be much easier to do this with.

Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore

Hope this helps,
Shawn
