You can create a disk image with Windows Backup, but this will be just that - an image of your hard drive. You won't be able to browse through the files like you would with an external disk, but you can 'mount' the image (a VHD file) and then browse.

Try this: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup, and maybe this will help too: System Image - Extract Files Using Disk Management

Do you really want to mirror (each byte exists twice the moment it gets written) Then you should look into RAID controllers that support RAID1 (but that should be done with identical drives so you could swap out the defective boot/system disk for the external one)
If you just want to image/backup the partition or the whole HDD then I suggest
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download (IMHO much better than the build in method)

Mirror's Edge
So I'm wondering, what are peoples' opinions of this game here? Personally, I loved the game. The sound especially, also the physics were incredible and so were the graphics. I played through the entire game with settings maxed out with physics enabled. It was beautiful.
