I have Win7 RTM running like a charm on a 7 year old system with these specs:
Athlon XP 2400+, ASUS A7N266-VM (nforce 1st gen), 64MB Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro, 640MB RAM

I even downgraded the processor to a Duron 1.2Ghz, removed the AGP card and made it run on the on-board Geforce2 MX and it still worked, although Aero took a hit.

Win7 actually runs better than XP ever did on my 5 year old Thinkpad T42 - Pentium-M 1.8Ghz, 32MB Mobility Radeon 9000 & 1GB RAM

Has anyone had any luck installing Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite M45 series?

LOL not yet. Next week, I'm rebuilding a stone age PC (Pentium3 733, 256MB SD RAM, ATrend ATC7401 (Intel 810)) from parts that were strewn around the attic. My target's to get Win7 up and running on that baby.

    Hi there
I think 256KB Ram is probably too small to get W7 up and running on - AFAIK - unless its the "Starter edition" -- you can download the starter edition from Technet if you are a suscriber.

With 256KB of RAM you won't go that far

528 mb ram seems to be the cut off

Been running betas and now RC on 528mb HP 510 1.2ghz business laptop and Gateway 700S Pentium 4. Both run fine with Avast/Defender for web surfing, light multi tasking, video playing, etc. So our experience for almost a year with these two oldies is that 528 is almost definitely the RAM cutoff for Win7 .

Spent hours last winter vliting 7 to see if it could yield performance gains and there were none, since the magic of Win7 is that services are already set to triggers, plus these low resource machines will not run aero (or try) to begin with. Even running Basic vs. Ultimate isn't really necessary since Ultimate will default to Basic on such a machine. This adaptability has really impressed me that Win7 is a winner all the way down the product line, so completely adaptable that old machines used as doorstops during VISTA are now useable again running win7 Ultimate.

Just another reason why this is the greatest invention since the computer.

If you're talking about the installation requirements, it's quite easy to bypass MSFT's system check.
    Someone's installed Win7 on a Pentium-II Mobile 266Mhz and 64MB RAM as seen here:

If that guy could do it, so can I. :)
