Password is auto resseting

Hello guys.

This is my first post here. I'm facing a very strange issue, I believe.

I have W7 Pro 64, with two accounts, both admin.

A few weeks ago I tried to update one of the passwords (change it from Pass1 to Pass2, for example).

I was able to do it, log off and back on using the new password. All worked fine.

However, as soon as I rebooted the PC the password became Pass1 again. I tested it several times.... always the same behavior.

I also tried the password reset CD... the result is the same.

Has anybody ever seen this? Any suggestion on how to get this resolved?

Thanks,

NR

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I'm just wondering if your issue is due the fact you have two admin accounts and would suggest you change one of them to a standard user account, and then check your password settings.

I'll post this link too in the hope there's something in there that may help you.

It seems you may have some kind of a steady state software installed on that machine. Can you try making another user account, changing an account image, or anything along those lines and reboot the pc again. Just to see if the changes revert or stay the same.

Thank you guys,

Yes, in my second account I have no issues.

It also works well on any new account I create. I can easily change the password on these accounts and they stick.

It is just on my main account that I have the problem.

Changing the account to "normal" (non-admin) didn't help.

It is like a new "password file" is copied over the real file every time I boot my computer... I just don't understand how this can happen. Never seen anything like it in my life (and I've been on the IT side for several years).

In that case, I'd be inclined to create a new admin account, transfer anything you need from the corrupted one, and then delete it.
