If I delete files and then go to the recycle bin, I can not see any of the files. Therefore if I want to restore a particular file I can not. If I choose to empty the bin, I get I confirmation to delete the correct number of files, but they are not visible. Any suggestions?
A couple of random suggestions.
Suggestion 1
Have you restarted your machine? If not, try this first...
Suggestion 2
Try browsing to it (this isn't a permanent fix, but if you are needing something now)
1. go to an explorer window
2. Tools> folder options
3. click the View tab
4. click show hidden files, folders, drives
5. uncheck hid protected operating system files.
6. hit ok...
7. go to the root of drive that you deleted the item off of
8. There will be a folder called $Recycle.Bin go to this
9. Then there will be some folder(s) inside, browse these.
Suggestion 3
Was this a clean install, or an upgrade? If it was an upgrade, it may possibly be an issue until you clean install.
Restarted several times and yes i was a clean install. Have been able to see any of the files since the install. It is on a dual boot system with Win XP. All data files are store on a separate HD (E)
It shouldn't be a permissions thing between the two operating systems, XP hid the recycled stuff in a Recycler folder. Did you attempt suggestion 2? If so were the files visible? After you empty the trash can, and throw something else in it, does it show up, or have you been waiting to empty because you want to revive something?
I have not tried #2 because I am at work. Will do so tonight. However, I have put stuff in the bin, not been able to see it, but have emptied the bin anyway, knowing what I put in there was trash. I have since put more stuff in there, but can not see the files. This happens no matter what I put in there. Fortunately I am careful about deleting, but others may not be. FYI, the icon does change to full and empty according to the whether there is or is not anything in the bin.

If all else fails, then a repair install should fix it.

Your tutorial for a Repair Install refers to the Beta version. Are the instructions the same for the RC?
