Can I copy files by dragging?

Using Vista, I could copy files to another location by dragging the name of the file. On Windows 7, however, when I drag, it moves the file (removing it from the original location). Is it possible to copy the file to another drive by dragging without deleting it from the original location?

It depends on the type of file and where you are dragging it, whether or not it would move or copy by default. If you drag with a right-click instead of the left-click, you'll be prompted with what to do....copy or move.

Drag/drop has one short-coming... it could get dropped to the wrong folder by mistake.

I use Copy-to or Move-to right click context menu option.
ex : right click at the folder you want to copy > click Copy to Folder > navigate to the folder you want > click Copy

This tutorial says Vista, it works the same with Win7. I installed it to my machine. Use Method One.

You could try adding a shortcut in your Send To Menu > to any drive/folder you copy to often. Send to makes copies only by default.

Read my recent thread here Sevenforums.com/general-discussion/make-send-to-move-specified-library.html about trying to force send to into moving files.

Also hold the <Shift> key down while dragging to toggle between Copy and Move. Release mouse button first.
