Not all of my RAM is usable

I have 4g of ram. In control panel it is listed 4.00gb RAM(Only 2.00gb usable) I have 2x(2g) sticks
Memory hole remapping is enabled. Max memory is unchecked.
I have an M4A785-M motherboard.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
This problem started happening a couple weeks ago.
All attempted solutions will be appreciated, this problem is about to drive me crazy due to interference with my gaming.
Thanks.

Hi JeffreyMartin and welcome to SF!
I'm confused ... if you have 4GB, how to explain they are 2 x 1GB sticks?

If you are using a 1x2GB stick with 2x1GB the mismatch may be relevant.

I'd be inclined to go for 2x2GB or 4x1GB.

You could try Crucial's memory scanner to get a recommendation for your rig.

Your board seems very similar to my model, the M4A8TD-V from ASUS. Have you tried running any sort of memory test/diagnostic? Also, your board might have a "MemOK!" button/switch.

Thanks for the responses. I haven't run a test. I bought this computer as a whole via Newegg from a company called IBUYPOWER
I checked the board carefully and I don't have the switch. =(

In Start search box, type mem then click Windows Memory Diagnostic, Restart now. Run advanced tests for several passes. It will take some hours to complete.
check your manual to see where the RAM should be when using two sticks. sometimes it is both in the blue slots, some one in a blue one and the other in the black, DIMM_A1, DIMM_A2.

If you are using the onboard ATI Radeon HD 4200 for graphics, it will dedicate a large amount of RAM to graphics.
