    my pictures folder is hidden

my pictures folder deleted itself on its own. I had to go and make all hidden files shown to get the folder back to visablility, However now it is gray. How do i get rid of the gray issue on this. I have not really gotten a difinitive answer on this and its really frustrating. There have been multiple answer like Mcafee is the problem, windows explorer and others. Can you solve this hudini riddle for me painlessly? Thanks

Hello Cowboy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you didn't move the "My Pictures" folder's default location, you could open a elevated command prompt, then copy and paste the command below and press enter to unhide your "My Pictures" folder.

    attrib +r -s -h %USERPROFILE%\Pictures /S /D

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Is the folder hidden? Make sure the check box for Hidden is Unchecked

File and Folder - Hide or Unhide

I went into organize, clicked on "Folder and Search Options", after I did this I went to "View" and clicked it over to show hidden files, folders, and drives. The "My Pictures" folder is back but is grayed now. If I do not have it on Show hidden files, folders, and drives it does not show up nor does it let me see any pictures that I have on my laptop. Did I do this correctly?

    Cowboy,

If you run the command I posted above, it should unhide (unfade) your folder for you. :)

Brink it didn't unfade it nor did it give me time to hit the enter key when I put the code in that you provided. I'm in Afghanistan so I can't take the pc to geek squad or anyone to have them try to fix it for me since I will not be back home till October. Do you have any other ideas on how to possibly remedy this?

Are any of your other user folders faded (hidden)?

You might see if doing OPTION TWO in the tutorial below for your C:\Users\(user-name)\My Pictures folder may be able to help.

User Folders - Restore Default Location

In addition to Shawn's suggestion there may also be some corruption so you may want to run a System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

EDIT: I haven't fully had a look at this but this may help as well - Users folder hidden
