What files are hidden by default in Windows 7?

Got hit with a malware last week, piece of cake to remove. More annoying than anything. Anyway, side effect of it: it hides a bunch of your files so it can do its malware thing. Solution: I unhid everything on my C: to avoid any problems.

Being the nutcase that I am, I'd now like to re-hide what was hidden by default from Windows. Anybody know where I could find a list/program to do this for me?

Possibly sfc, but I'm not too sure...

    Unhide.exe from bleepingcomputers.

I will try SFC, second link in the thread just looks like something showing you how to show hidden files rather than telling you what was hidden.

You should have just enabled "Show Hidden Files and Folders" in Folder Options so you could have easily put it back. I'm not sure how you're going to find the list of hidden files. And if you do, that's going to be a painful manual process of click on the properties of each file and hiding it. I would recommend in the future seeking advice on the forum here on how to remove a virus to prevent situations like this.

You will not be able to rehide the files that were hidden before. We are talking about literally thousands of files across the system.

Use System Restore to go back to a point before the virus. SFC doesn't help you hide or unhide files. Don't bother.

Showing hidden files wouldn't have helped either, because you wouldn't have known what to unhide.

There is another tool on the BleepingComputer site that would have fixed this. I know because I have used it on several customer's computers with the same virus. I'm not going to mention that tool by name here, because people freak out when others are told to use it without "supervision" (which has become sort of silly). That should be enough info to help you find it should you need it again.

There's nothing wrong with anything, I took care of what i needed to in a few minutes. I just want to rehide what was originally hidden. Because I want to.

And as I stated clearly, you will NOT be able to accomplish that task.

This doesn't rehide files...it simply turns on or off whether you can see hidden files or not. That isn't what the OP is asking for.
