    Windows Installer Service

I do not have a Windows Installer listed in my Services and keep getting error 1719 when trying to install software. Any help with this would be appreciated.

I'm just asking you to double check your steps.

In the Start Search bar type services. Click Services when it shows. Don't worry with the .msc it takes you to the same location.

Then scroll down and there will be several Windows programs listed. As you can see where it is listed in mine below.

If it isn't there please post a Snip of the "W" section of Services. See if other things may be missing also.

    Let us know.
Don't get offended over my request.
If it truly isn't showing then I will need to get you better assistance than myself.

Mike, this is on my brothers computer and he lives in Arkansas, but the Windows Installer is not listed at all in the Services. We were comparing mine against his and that is when we noticed it missing. We have identical computers that I built and he is the one having the problems. I will be seeing him next week and he is bringing his computer up so I can look at it and see if I can fix it.

Sevenforums just froze on me. Sorry for the delay.

I'll see if I can get you some help. Then you can pass info to him or have him come on with you.
Or get you some ideas to check when he gets in to town.

Then you will have a starting point.

I will have our conversation split off into a new thread in this section then post for more help.

    This thread is marked resolved.

If not fixed before his visit you can come back for more help then also.

Give me a few minutes to get the split going and more help.
    Mike

Back on line. My system just Blue screened. Never had that before.

    Split off requested.

I saw this in another thread and will pass it along to you.

The fix for a missing service is a registry fix.

A missing service means that the service no longer features in the registry.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to the registry on school computers.

I shall do it tmz, or you can do this.

Find if he has SP1 installed. Find someone with a match between SP1 or not, and 32bit.

    Then export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TrustedInstaller

Send it to him, and get him to import it.
Since you and your brother have the same computer, you can send this to him.
niemiro will likely check this thread later if you have any questions.

First have your brother backup the registry, follow this tutorial.
How to Backup and Restore the Registry in Windows 7 and Vista
Option One, Method Two, #3 tells you how to Export.
Option Two, Method Two, #2 tells you how to Import.

The above posted by Dave76 is the next step.

Niemiro is one of our Ace registry repair specialists and Dave is passing on Niemiros suggestion.

If there is no Trusted Installer folder or a corrupted folder there will be no service for it.

He does have the Trusted Installer folder and everything is same in it and it is on my computer. The only thing that is missing in the "W" section of the Registry is the Windows Installer. If I do an upgrade install do you think that will fix the problem and keep all of his programs and files in place?
