How do i expand my c drive??????

i have a windows 7 ultimate os. i am desperately trying to expand my c drive using the partition manager in the control panel. i succeeded in creating an unallocated volume. however if i right click on the c drive partition, the option 'extend volume' cannot be clicked(its in that grey text, not the bold one). here is what i have tried to do:
i changed my drive from basic to dynamic
i deleted 115 gb into unallocated space.

i have visited several websites, but each of them ask to click the 'extend volume' option, which itself is disabled in my case. please help!!!!!!!!!! i have less than 200 mb left in my C drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is your HD mechanical or SSD?

Why would you convert your HD to Dynamic? This is used to span the same partition across multiple HD's.

Had you asked us we could have taken a look at your Disk Management screenshot and easily helped you adjust your disk configuration to extend the partition. Now you may have deleted something which is needed by your computer to function correctly if it is a factory install.

Before making any further random changes post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map with listings showing all columns, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu and explain exactly what you did.

Welcome to the Seven Forums, piezoelectron. I suggest that you take a look at Partition Wizard. I have many times found this tool able to do the job when the Windows partition manager is not.

Hope this helps. Please report back with how it works.

In light of gregrocker's comment, it would seem your only option now is a re-install to factory settings.

    piezoelectron,

Go to a computer which has a 32 bit Win7 installed if yours is 32 bit.
Go to a computer which has a 64 bit win 7 installed if yours is 64 bit.

Once there, make a system repair disk.

Boot from that system repair disk, connect an external drive.
Use DiskPart to examine your present laptop disk.
Copy off everything dear to your heart to the external.

I've never messed with Dynamic because i never needed it, but if I remember correctly, DiskPart has an option whereby you will be able to convert back to non-dynamic. Greg probably has experience on this.

Now here's some info you will need:
DISC - CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC
START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button

COMMAND PROMPT - GO TO A COMMAND PROMPT USING A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

    1) Insert System Repair Disc into optical reader.
    2) Shutdown your computer.
    3) Boot up your computer from the System Repair Disc
If your computer doesn’t boot from the optical drive, then
Immediately after pushing your Power ON button, start tapping the F2 key to get to the BIOS to change the boot order.

    On some computers, you can:
Immediately after pushing your Power ON button, start tapping the F12 key and choose CD/DVD to change the boot order only for this time.
    4) Wait while a mini-version of Windows is loaded and finally the System Recovery Options dialog appears.
    5) SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS dialog |
Select a keyboard input method |
    NEXT button
    6) SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS dialog
will search your system for installed versions of Windows.
    7) SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS dialog |
select the Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows radio button |
    NEXT button
    8) SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS |
    Choose a recovery tool |
    9) Click on command prompt from the list shown

Run any desired commands and type EXIT when finished.
    Remove the System Repair Disc.
    Shutdown your computer.
    Power on your computer.

    VIEW DRIVE LETTERS USING DISKPART
Type following commands. Hit ENTER key after each command.
    DISKPART starts the DiskPart program
LIST VOLUME shows drive letter assignment
    EXIT exit the DiskPart program

You are going to want to use:
    Diskpart
    Help

to get a list all diskpart commands.

    HELP CONVERT
will be of interest to you.

    CONVERT BASIC
will convert from dynamic to basic.

If you don't know then there is a very high probability that it is NOT ssd.

Of course if you execute procedure given below you will have your answer:

    UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS

User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |

in left-hand column, under Your Profile, Edit System Spec |

using SIW and Speccy to gather info, fill in the blanks.
Do me a favor and add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.
Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.
