Windows 7: Help?

Help?

For the last half-week, my computer has been restarting while I sleep. This is infuriating because Notepad does not autosave and Internet Explorer's tab recovery capability is terribly unreliable.

What's going on and how do I make it stop?

Welcome
Sounds like it maybe due to the internet, maybe a hacker or maybe something not as serious. Try to disconnect from the internet, and see if it happens again.
If your computer sleeps, during the problem this may help too.

Hello desertoth, welcome to Seven Forums!

Is it fully 'awake' when it happens or is it sleeping or hibernating?

You can run the Event Viewer to see why your computer is restarting while you sleep.
I think that once you post your findings, we can proceed from there.

Type "event" in search.
Look at the Error logs.

The power settings on the computer only allow screen-dimming. No sleeping, standby, or hibernation.

And there's no way the mains power 'flickering' could be the issue?

Hoho!

From EventViewer
Quote:
Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following updates, the computer will be restarted within 15 minutes:
- Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2476490)
- Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2536275)
And minutes after I went to bed. I might have known the smelly Windows updates were behind this! How do I change the settings so it won't autorestart?
