Windows 7: Windows explorer issues

Hello again,
1. I'm still not on friendly terms with Windows Explorer, although I have learned about the "pointer" folders, libraries, etc thanks to helpful posts on this site. But I am still uncomfortable with file management. I set up windows explorer to open to my profile c:\users\my user name, but it's way down near the bottom, only a minor annoyance. I also put in a number of folders for files I want to keep in various categories, under the username folder. So far so good.
In another post on another topic, I heard the poster mention that he had installed the "classic shell". Hmmm. Is this going to make my file management more like XP?
Is it safe? Available?
I'd appreciate some advice.

2. Also, not to complicate this post, I did have a peculiar incident today where Windows Explorer would not open from where I had it pinned to the task bar, nor from the start menu, nor from programs/accessories. When I clicked to open it, I got a brief flash of light on the desktop, then it disappeared. I had to do a system restore to get Windows Explorer back.
Many thanks for any thoughts about either or both issues.

Hi Jack,

To check the explorer issue, we need to check for integrity violations of key system files. To do this, please:

1. Click Start Orb.
2. In search box, type cmd.
3. Right-click on cmd and choose to "Run as administrator".
4. In the cmd window that opened, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Thi will check for issues with system file, and repair if neccessary. Post the outcome once it is run, and then see if explorer works as expected from your pinned shortcuts.

Golden, Thank you. I am running sfc /scannow now on the Windows 7 laptop and posting this from my Win XP desktop.
Of course, Windows Explorer is already back to functioning as it should, thanks to the system restore I did after trying all the other things I could do to correct this peculiar problem.
So it may well be that the system files are OK. And, again, it's now working again. I just hadn't seen anything like that before, so I thought I'd yelp.
I will indeed post the results of the sfc /scannow program.
