I had it happen again and I used CCleaner... and it worked like a charm. It definitely is an Internet Explorer thing.

When I browsed to the photos folders with Firefox, it didn't do it and neither did any of my photo editing/viewing programs that can open .jpg files

Anyway got CCleaner permanently installed on the 'puter for fixing things when the problem shows up again.

You've saved me the hassle of having to restore my 'puter to a system image. Just run CCleaner and the very quirky problem is fixed!
