    Overnight Reboot?

I was running Windows XP and kept the system up for weeks on end. I just installed Windows 7 7600 last night and throughout the night the system will just restart. I saw some "power" labeled things in the event viewer mostly some wake on things with an "unknown" source but honestly it's not shedding much light on things. Is there anything I can do, change or install that will monitor why this happens?

Its probably a sleep wake issue with either the power plan or a device (like a nic, esb, vodeo) that doesnt wake from sleep gracefully.

Try the easy stuff first then we can move on to more complext issues

I turned off some of the sleep options. I suppose we'll see how it does tonight. Thanks.

please post the log from the event viewer so I can look at it. Open the event viewer click on windows log, select the section you saw the event (system, application, etc) highlight the one with the issue, then right click it, and choose save select events, make sure and change the save as type to txt. then attach it here. Open the control panel, click on the troubleshooting icon, then click the view history link on the left, and see if there is anything there.

Your problem sounds a little similar to the one that this guy ran across (except his is a wakeup problem) (see the second part of the post):
Two tales of "smart" software gone awry

He does a good job of explaining what's going on; it's worth a read. I'd suggest that you look at your Windows Update settings and stuff in your task scheduler.

I have random shutdown issues with my system - and it's due to the storage drivers. I reported the bug to Microsoft and we worked all the issues with the exception of my storage drivers (my RAID card won't have Win7 drivers, so I'll have to install a new RAID card w/Win7 support).

Sleep operations will generate the random shutdown with the symptoms that you've described. The Microsoft rep stated that there was a very specific section of the driver's code that controlled this behavior, and that it was a known issue with Vista drivers on Win7 systems.
