SOLVED: Losing Important Files - Can't Organize Files

    Hi,

I have a very important folder on my hard drive called "Back-pain-site". It relates to the site I'm currently building, and I have used it all day every day for the past few weeks.

The other day, I noticed once I was inside this folder, the "New Folder" option had disappeared from the menu at the top.

I also couldn't add a new folder with Right Click.

Then I found all my other folders did have "New Folder" option; - just not this one!

No problem, I thought - I'll just make a new folder in another folder and move it to this folder.

Please look at the following two pics. The first one is from inside the Twitter folder (Back-pain-site > Twitter) and it shows the New Folder option at the top.

But the Back-pain-site itself - shows no New folder at the top. The two folders also in Back-pain-site called New Folder and New Folder2 were tests I made from another folder and moved them to there.

So I thought my problem was over, but it got worse.

If I make a new folder in Back-pain-site and move it to say Twitter for example (or any other folder) it COPIES it; instead of moving it.

Pressing Shift or Control makes no difference.

Not only that, if I change the name of any file in Back-pain-site, it also changes it in the Twitter folder!!!

If I delete it from the Back-pain-site, it also deletes it from the Twitter folder!!!

At least when I had this problem before, of files being copied instead of moved, I was able to delete the duplicates. But now; the original also gets deleted.

I find this very confusing and am concerned I will accidentally lose work.

I'm certain the problem is connected to the fact I cannot make a new folder from directly inside this important folder, Back-pain-site.

I was able to move files from Twitter back to Back-pain-site folder and they behaved themselves!

Anyone know what I have done wrong please?

    thank you

This thread might help you - seems to be a similar problem. Please try the solution proposed by Brink:

"New Folder" missing but only in certain Places

    Thanks a lot Seeliewight,

But I managed to solve it an easier way (although the link you gave me gave me the idea!)

I have posted how I did it at the thread in your link:
"New Folder" missing but only in certain Places

    thanks
