    UPDATE --

bought USB cable long enough and the printer installed fine and ran one 1,000+ pg job and so far so good

I'm not going mark this solved just yet though, I want to run next week to be sure(unifex, zepher, deaconfrost -- I will give you all credit for helping me with this)

the job I ran is one that I run every week and it ran faster than it has ever run on this computer......good sign!!

DEACONFROST -- I've been in the DirectMail Business for over 20yrs and NEVER seen
or heard of this issue before

I had deleted and recreated the port about as many times as I've uninstalled/reinstalled the printer and driver

Is there anyway to test the NIC in this computer first before replacing?

I thank you all VERY, VERY MUCH

this has been my first time using a forum to help figure something out.....always just tried and tried and figured out on my own......this is MUCH less stressful......I will be back

From Lizard Lick, NC Ya'll have a safe and good July 4th weekend........

If you have a fast computer, and if the network is slow or a little bogged down, a local job can print faster than a network job. it all depends on which side is doing the spooling faster.

You were right to delete and recreate the port each time. My comments above were in reference to someone saying they needed to create a port several times before it stuck, which is unheard of to me.
