I have a G9 and there are times it just won't work right. It will not track correctly either in a game or on the desktop.

When that happens, I clean the mouse (using compressed air to clear the laser area and wipe clean the bottom), clean the mousepad (I've got one that has a plastic type covering that sometimes gets dirt spots on it that clean easy with Windex and a rag), and reboot.

I usually have to do that every 4-6wks or so depending on usage.

I'm not sure if this is similar to your issue, but when my mouse will not respond those are the steps I take.

The style of mouse I have is one of those laser models with a recessed housing approximately 1/4" in depth to prevent any occurrences like you are describing.

Used same USB port for both tests as well as other USB ports. If A USB port was failing it would make the mouse pointer stop even when I was moving the mouse. However the case in point here is that the pointer continues to move as in a lag effect.

yep this work for me! The cloth pad I had did not work well clean or dirty, but the plastic pad worked like new one after a good cleaning with windex Thanks Taliseian
