New laptop has Windows 7 -- new to me. Very difficult to make change from XP.
So far, after one day, I hate the laptop and I hate Windows 7. Hope that will change.

    1. In Windows Explorer, left panel, toward bottom:
    Computer
    xy4!3111WOD C:

Except for WOD, the symbols above replace the actual 11-digit code preceding "C:" in my Windows 7 Windows Explorer. What are they?

    2. The icons pinned to the Task Bar are too large--can they be made smaller, as in QuickLaunch?

    3. How can I get Show Desktop pinned to the Task Bar?

Hello Weston, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Q1) Could you post a screenshot of this?

Q2) Quick Launch - Enable or Disable
Q3) Show Desktop is the far right button on the taskbar. :)
    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hi Weston,

Making the switch from XP to Windows 7 can seem daunting, but when you get used to it you will swear by it. Of course now that you have found SevenForums you have found the ideal place to get all your Windows 7 questions answered, and there is certainly a huge, huge amount of information, and very willing volunteers to answer your questions, here. Check out the many professional Tutorials that have been put together on almost every conceivable aspect of Windows 7.

In answer to your questions, specifically question 1, if I'm correct, I think those letters in front of C are simply the name of the drive that the system builder chose to call the C: (it can be very easily changed to something that makes more sense to you). To check this, please follow these steps:

    1. In Windows Explorer, right click on the C:
    2. From the context menu, select the option Properties.
    3. You should see a panel like the one shown below - can you post that here as a screen capture image?

    Regards,
    Golden
