    is this common ???


    hi,

    today i noticed an issue... whn i tried to create a text document in drive c:, i cudnt, as i have only newfolder option. i cud create it in desktop and in my documents.... but i cant create it inside in drive c... is this common or somethin weird ??
    but i can create in drive d, e, and f...

    Yes, it is common. The root of the C drive is locked down.

    The c: drive is I assume the system drive.

    The root of the system drive has special protection in win7 to actively prevent the user creating files here.

    This is primarily a security measure against certain types of malware but is also good practice anyway

    I don't think it's common. I CAN do new docs and every option of "create new" is working with me.

    You are running with UAC off or as the Hidden Administrator account?
    Either way, what the original poster of this thread asked is common.

    Why only a folder can be made is because it is specifically allowed.
    Via Authenticated Users, Create folders / append data, Allowed, This folder only.

    The big question is, why would anyone want to create anything in the root of the C: drive? It's the single most illogical place to put anything on your computer.
