    Interesting Desktop Icon Problem

Ok guys I have an interesting problem. I had the same thing happen to me in Vista (Almost) and its happening in 7 as well, but I cant get this one fixed.

Anyways, everytime I log off or shut down the computer, when I get back on, the desktop icons not only grow in size, (to medium), but they also rearrange themselves. I fixed this problem in Vista, but the same fix doesnt work here. Anyone have any ideas??

I've had that happen a few times. I figured it was due to an incomplete previous shutdown that caused the icons to lose their configuration.

You know what's weird? Since the new taskbar, I haven't used any desktop icons except the Recycle Bin and Feedback icons

I don't use the desktop icons much either. I have lots of shortcuts programed.

I read somewhere; I guess in this forum itself; but now I can't find it; that Win7 can rearrange desktop icons using some shortcut.

No need to check Auto Arrange Desktop Icons in the right click!

I am searching frantically for it but cant find it! Should have noted it down earlier!

    Edit: Found it!

Press F5 for more than one second on the desktop to have Windows arrange your icons automatically for you!

None icon in desktop. Gadgets & ObjectDocks = Clean

No one (NOoNE) icon in desktop. Gadgets & ObjectDocks (2) mantains desktop "Hi-Clean" and all kinds of menus, except trayicons (never works good at Stardocks).
Tranparency in gadgets and yahoo!gadgets via Ctrl+F2 are welcome -

Other: I'm waiting for videos on background like Vista Ult. - without use Stardock video support (= waiting native video backgroundS).

I've been having the same problem on my Windows 7 Pro x64 OS. A select few of the icons reposition themselves at various times. One fix I used was to rename the file/folder name of the icon (e.g., by putting a "-" as first character). That seemed to work...but for a better solution I went with IconRestorer, which can backup and restore desktop icon layouts, and provide 64-bit support.

    Disappearing Icons

RASTAMANX - You are a genius. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Some of my desktop icons would disappear for no reason while others would stay put. I have Windows 7, 64-bit. I had read of some other solutions at answers.microsoft.com and at answers.yahoo.com, but their solutions involved changing settings in the Registry, or in something called a Task Scheduler. That made me nervous, so I decided to try your solution of the IconRestorer first. That way, if I didn't like it, I could always just delete it or uninstall it. I downloaded it and it worked immediately. Everything is perfect now. My desktop icons no longer disappear. They all stay put. Your solution is so simple, even elegant. So thank you.
