    Restrictions on Computer Usage

I'm still relatively new to Windows 7, I got it a few months ago switching from XP. I really like Windows 7, it's cool. A lot more ways to customize your interface and what not, but one thing that I really hate, is not being able to open certain files or programs. Since I've installed 7, I've had numerous problems where my computer says I must be an admin. or I don't have the correct authority to access a file. I've searched all over the web looking for a solution to these problems, and none that I find work for me. What I want, is to change it so I can open ANY file on my computer. I'm the only one who uses it, I'm the administrator. Heck, I'm the one who put it together! But I can't open some files, usually executables.

Right now I'm trying to run a game. I open the launcher as admin. and click launch game when the game's menu comes up, then get this error message

How can I fix this particular error? And is there anyway to remove all usage restrictions on my PC?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Seriously, thanks.

    Welcome Jake
You seem like an experienced computer user, so this adivce is reserved for you and not others that my read this post. There is an all powerful administrator, who has no restrictions. If you do not know what you are doing, use of this administrator can cause serious problems. With that in mind
Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable[2]=User Accounts
The usual method is to set up permissions.
Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups

    Right-click > Run as Admin.
You do not need the Built-in Administrator account.

That is correct, that the administrator is not needed, but I think it would be an easier method for those well versed in Windows.

Sorry did I not mention this in the initial post?

Running as admin. didn't work, the error message still came up. Have yet to try the Built-in Admin. but will post whether it works or not.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Install the game to your user directory? C:\Users\<your-username>

    Re: logicearth
I guess I might do that. Right now, it's installed on a second HDD to save room.

The admin account didn't work, got same error message. So yeah. I appreciate the quick replies and variety of solutions to try.

Edit: Let me rephrase that, I will re-install in C:/admin/documents or should it be in my current user?

Do you have full permissions to read and write to the second drive without incurring any UAC prompts or the like? That should be fine otherwise. I assumed it you were installing it under "C:\Program Files"

No it was installed under J:\Program Files, a second hard drive I had for games specifically so my C drive wouldn't fill up. I'm installing now in the program files in C. I'll post an update after it's done installing.

    Thanks.

Edit: And yes, I have read and write permissions activated for all but "special permissions" which is faded out and can't be checked.

Edit: Okay, re-installed under C:\Program Files and ran it in the admin user and got the same error message. It says I need to be admin to run this program the first time, or something like that.

    Solved!

I figured out how to bypass the restrictions, I installed Tages driver which let me run it regardless of what authority I was lacking.

    Thanks, everyone, for the help.
