I am running Avira AntiVir Personal Free Antivirus. This returns with no issues after a full scan.

After running the quick scan I left a full scan running overnight. Here are the results:

This has solved the ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683} error message showing. Thank you for that :)

BUT I still have the error box popping up: [Window Title]
    Explorer.EXE

    [Content]

    No such interface supported

[OK], and cannot mount the folders mentioned earlier.

Lack of sound through factory speakers continues to a point where I've started wondering if this is a faulty speaker or internal connection issue?
I'm still concerned that I can't even locate to my picture folders using paint.NET, whereas I could before I tried a system recover as recommended in a thread somewhere. I KNOW that wouldn't affect those. Surely..?

Unfortunately I am having difficulty creating a New User account to migrate folders to, as the problem I'm experiencing renders ALL of these functions unusable.

Thank you very much for all your help so far!

Ok, so to prevent any unnecessary musings on the missing photographs line, I had a hunch to download Picasa. This is bringing up all of the images I have previously been unable to locate or mount folders for. Phew!

The question is, how to safely migrate them from Picasa to say, and external Hard Drive or better, CD when I am unable to access these once attached? Ha! And to add insult to injury, I just tried to connect my WD External HDD and it makes the kind of spool up and then click noise I associate with read/write heads being S.N.A.F.U. About the 3rd WD branded product to do this to me!

Will buy some blank C.D's tomorrow and let you know if they're recognised or not.

I'm unfamiliar with Picassa but its program folder should have an images folder or something like that. Hopefully you can copy them from there.
A clicking HDD is not a good sign and you're correct about it being the heads maybe. You can try a WD diagnostic on it.

    Squinter,
I'm glad that Britton caught your commend regarding the hd noise.

That is a very, very bad sign. Backup everything from that drive dear to your heart.

Now let me get the WD link.

Tried with a DVD to use for backup of Picture folders and Music. Pictures to DVD reported error: the destination folder could not be created.
Tried a standard DVD to play though WMP. Had to follow full path of File/ Open/ CD/ VideoTS... etc Movie plays.

Still have no access to any of my music/ my pictures/ my computer folders.

    First Squinter,

Use a USB stick or an external drive for backing up your movies, music, etc.

Cheaper in the long run, much more flexible.

Using cd/dvd for backup is a thing of the past.

On inserting removable media, such as a USB stick or External Hard Drive, I am not able to connect to the device at all. Autoplay does not seem to be enabled anymore either?
I cannot access anything to make any changes as everything with My Computer as the root folder will not open.

I am aware that we don't back up to disk anymore, but I am too wary of the fickle nature of the HDD now, with 3 failures over 2 different storage devices, working out at an average rate of one fail per year.
