A 1GB flash drive G:\, that worked fine as a Ready Boost in Vista, stopped working after upgrading to Windows7 Ultimate.
Right clicking G> Properties> Ready Boost gives: It cannot be used for Ready Boost, Bit Locker group policy settings prohibit write access to non encrypted removable devices.
How can I restore Ready Boost on this flash drive??

Win 7 with bitdefender running will not let you write to an un-encrypted removable drive. Your choices are stop running bit defender ( win 7 ultimate prob) or encrypting the flash drive with bit defender. I dont run it so someone using it is going to have to help you with the specifics

Control Panel>System and Security> Bit Locker Drive Encryption shows that encryption is off on all drives, including the flash G.

In the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > BitLocker Drive Encryption > Removable Data Drives
Change the "Deny write access to removable drives not protected by bitlocker" setting
or turn off the "control use of bitlocker on removable drives" setting depending on what you want.
Note: "Deny write access to removable drives not protected by bitlocker" can be overridden by the policy settings under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access. If the "Removable Disks: Deny write access" policy setting is enabled this policy setting will be ignored.
Edit: Bit Defender is not part of windows it is an Antivirus program.

I changed in User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access, the "Removable Disks: Deny write access" policy setting to disabled.
And also changed in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > BitLocker Drive Encryption > Removable Data Drives the "Deny write access to removable drives not protected by bitlocker" setting to disabled
These two settings, like all the rest, were originally set to not configured, so Ready Boost should have worked, from the beginning, even without the changes to disabled. But just to be sure, I made the changes.

Are you even using bitlocker? go to "bit locker drive encryption" in the control panel and turn it off and decrypt whatever drive you don't want it on, or turn it on and make sure you use the appropriate setting in the group policy.
Bit locker drive encryption is turned off on all drives. It cannot even be turned on, because there is no Trusted Platform Module Security Device on this computer.
I don’t need bit locker encryption. All I want is, use the flash drive G as a Ready Boost.
You don't want to use Ready Boost. It doesn't DO anything other than crash your machine if you accidentally unplug the drive. No speed gains, no usefulness at all. Just skip it.
I've got a 2GB SD card dedicated to ReadyBoost on my laptop. I don't notice a speed difference while using 'normal/standard' functions, but for things like gaming and PhotoShop there's a noticeable speed increase, though it's not much.
I've also NEVER had any issues with my laptop crashing when removing the card while running, nor did this happen when I was using a flash drive...on either 7 or Vista. I believe ReadyBoost is actually setup in a way to prevent such problems.
