Hello Ken, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command at boot may be able to help.

If not, then you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this started to hopefully fix it for you.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

While you are at it, also run a malware scan with mbam free.

Er, are you running the dos command itself from the start menu? Or are you opening a dos box from start->All Programs->Acessories and that only stays open for a second?

Please explain in detail exactly what you are doing and what happens.

There are multiple ways to run a dos command and some of them DO auto close the dos box when finished normally.

    What is a cfg command?

    Do following:

    Elevated Command Prompt

    | type CMD.EXE | do NOT hit enter |
right-click on cmd.exe at the top of the list above the search box |
    choose Run as administrator |

Now are you at a command prompt, for example; c:\users\JohnHenry >
