    Windows Startup Problem

Hello all, Yep, that annoying start up problem once again. I first dealt with this issue 2 months ago. After about 27 hours, start-up repair seemed to fix the problem. But my laptop has been having boot-up problems for the past week where start-up repair was needed twice. I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary so I'm getting a little frustrated. The weird thing is, both times start-up repair stated it CANNOT fix the problem. But my PC booted up fine afterwards. For further details regarding my 2 past recent issues: 1st time, start-up repair couldn't fix the problem. I rebooted and windows loaded fine. 2nd time, again, start-up repair couldn't fix the problem. I rebooted and it took me back to the black screen where it states Windows encountered a problem. I opted to start windows normally instead of start-up repair and windows loaded fine. So I'm a little stumped. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? The laptop is only a few months old and I haven't done any alterations to it. edit: why can't I format this properly so its not bunched up in one big paragraph?

    Hi avargas28,
it could be corrupt or damaged files. Open start menu, type cmd, and right click cmd.exe and run as administrator. type or copy & paste:- sfc /scannow then hit enter.

Thank you for your reply. I scanned the system and it states "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

It's more likely corruption in the boot sector, which requires wiping it to reinstall.

First try from the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD running Startup Repair repeatedly so that it doesn't depend upon system files to run. System Repair Disc - Create

If the problem reoccurs, consider saving your files externally, making your Factory Recovery Disks as a backup, then running full Factory Recovery from it's partition on the HD. If you'll tell your make/model we can give you the exact steps.

If this fails to solve the issue it is because factory Recovery doesn't wipe the HD and boot sector of corruption, so you'll need to do so and then either run the Recovery Disks (since the HD will be wiped clean) or clean reinstall with a Win7 installer for your version using the Product Key on the COA sticker: Reinstalling Windows 7

Hi all, A little update: I ended up doing a clean reinstall because I was faced with the black screen, moving cursor issue. Luckily my files were saved but the black screen of death reappeared a few days later. I did another clean reinstall but now Im gonna move my files to another location and format and reinstall. Obviously this thread doesn't pertain to the black screen of death so this thread is finished. I'll go on a search before i create another thread regarding my new issue. Thanks for your help.
