    Deleting windows.old folder

    Further to a previous post...

Having reinstalled windows 7 over the top of an original installation (due to it not working when I first bought my PC) I am now left with a windows.old file.

I have considered deleting it but paused when a window appeared stating that the file contains system files that if deleted may affect the running of the OS.

Is this merely Win 7 being cautious or are there certain things in this file I should not delete?

    Any suggestions?

Just use Disk Cleanup to remove it. Everything should be fine.

The Windows.old folder is created when you reinstall Windows 7 in the manner you did and it contains personal files from your old installation.

Have a look in the Windows.old folder to see if there's anything you want to copy to your fresh Windows installation.

When you've done that you can delete the folder to regain the disk space.
